Noh Yoo-min of K-pop boy group NRG shared how strict it was for K-pop stars back in the day.
On September 14 episode of MBC every1's television show 'South Korean Foreigners', Noh Yoo-min, SUNG JONG of boy group INFINITE, soloist Kwon Eun Bi and JANG JUN of GOLDEN CHILD joined the talk.
As the guests on this day consisted of K-pop stars from different generations, the host Kim Yong-man asked them if there were any differences between the generations.
1997-debuted Noh Yoo-min gave his answer first, "Well, in my days, all K-pop groups had to pretty much keep themselves mysterious. That was the trend in the K-pop world back then."
He continued, "If some people went past us when we were eating, we would instantly stop eating our food. We couldn't say anything if our agency told us not to as well. Also, we weren't allowed to go to the restroom if anyone was in the restroom, even when we needed to go."
SUNG JONG commented, "I made debut in 2010, and at that time, we all had to overexaggerate everything on television shows. We had to show off some sort of talent, and danced to girl group songs. That was a thing during my times."
Then, Kwon Eun Bi, who initially debuted in 2014 and returned as a soloist last year, "The newer K-pop generation base the concept on individualism. Us, millennials/generation Z are honest and down-to-earth, you know. Our agencies don't really try to control us."
She went on, "They allow us to do pretty much whatever we want, because they respect the things that we want to do. There aren't many restrictions that we have to follow."
Lastly, JANG JUN with the latest debut year, 2017, added, "We go by the keyword 'the human smell'. I even tell our agency staff about needing to use the restroom for number two."
