So Jisub Reveals He Was Often Told He Did Not Have the Face of an Actor at Auditions

Actor So Jisub shared that he was often told he did not have the face of an actor at auditions in his early debut days. 

On October 12 episode of tvN's television show 'You Quiz on the Block', So Jisub made a guest appearance. 

During the talk, So Jisub shared he initially did not plan on entering this industry. 

So Jisub said, "I was a professional swimmer when he was in high school as well as a member of national water polo team. In my last year in high school, I participated in 'National Sports Festival'. If I won a medal, then I would automatically get into a university. I won the bronze medal, so my university had been fixed." 

The actor continued, "So, I had like three months of free time before the term started at my university. I thought hard on what I could do during that time. That was when one of my friends, who went to get acting lessons from a famous acting academy, asked if I wanted to try auditioning for a commercial for jeans together." 

He went on, "I was like, 'Okay, let's just try it.' I went to the audition with him then, and Won Bin and Song Seung Heon were there. But I somehow passed the audition with the most points and made debut like that." 
However, So Jisub stated that many people in the industry told him that he did not have the right kind of face as an actor at first. 

So Jisub commented, "When I made debut, actors like Jang Dong Gun, Han Ji-seok, Song Seung Heon were popular. They all had big double eyelids and deep eyes. They're just very good-looking, you know. But I didn't look like them." 

He added, "At auditions, I would hear things like, 'You're not going to make it big in this industry.', 'You should stop acting.', 'You don't have the right kind of face as an actor with no double eyelids and small eyes.' I've heard these sorts of comments hundreds of times back then." 
In 2004, So Jisub starred in a mega-hit drama 'Love in Bali' and also led another successful drama 'I'm Sorry, I Love You' the same year; he quickly rose to stardom after 2004.
