On February 7, Park Gyu-ri of girl group KARA's YouTube channel released a video of her spending time with Yubin and Ham Eun Jung of girl group T-ARA.
All born in 1988 and members of the iconic 2010s girl groups, they looked back on their careers.
Ham Eun Jung said, "I wasn't really in the same wave as Wonder Girls and KARA though. I debuted a little later, so I was more in line with 4MINUTE and f(x)."
When Park Gyu-ri asked Yubin when she joined Wonder Girls, Yubin replied, "It was during 'Tell Me.'"
Ham Eun Jung recalled, "Oh! There was so much buzz about it back then. All the headlines went, 'A New member, Yubin, joins Wonder Girls!' And I still remember the photo that was distributed ahead of your debut. A picture of you posing in a hip-hop style against a gold background."
Yubin laughed and added, "Wonder Girls fans were so worried at the time. When they saw that picture, they were like, 'She doesn't really match the group's vibe.' They thought I looked a bit intimidating as well."
When Park Gyu-ri asked, "Do you have a favorite current K-pop girl group?" Ham Eun Jung shyly said, "For me, it's aespa's WINTER. She's so pretty."
Yubin thought for a moment before admitting, "Honestly, I don't really keep up with them these days," and Park Gyu-ri said, "For me, they are Red Velvet and NewJeans."
That is when Yubin said, "Talking about them reminds me of how we used to cover our seniors' performances at award shows. But now, younger K-pop stars cover our songs. It feels so weird. It's like—wow, we've become what Fin.K.L and SHINHWA were to us."
Surprised, the other two reacted, "Wait, that's not how we took those performances! We thought they were covering our songs just because they liked them!"
Ham Eun Jung added, "I mean, okay, but T-ARA did make debut 15 years ago. When you think about it, these idols grew up listening to our songs—that's why they're covering them now."
Yubin mentioned that NewJeans and BLACKPINK have performed Wonder Girls' hits "So Hot" and "Tell Me," saying, "I don't know why but thinking about that makes me feel so weird."
