Director Bong Joon-ho's latest film 'Mickey 17' is set to debut in North America, and the first-week revenue estimates have been revealed.
On the 5th (local time), American media outlet Variety reported that 'Mickey 17', which opens on the 7th, is expected to be screened in 3,770 theaters across North America during its opening weekend, with ticket sales projected to reach approximately $18 million to $20 million (around 260 billion to 290 billion won). Additionally, the global box office revenue for the first week is estimated to be around $40 million to $45 million (approximately 580 billion to 650 billion won).
Given that 'Mickey 17' is rated R (restricted) and has a unique artistic flair, the anticipated revenue of $20 million in its opening week is considered a solid performance.

Variety also noted that 'Mickey 17' has already performed well in South Korea, earning $6.6 million (about 96 billion won) over the past weekend and surpassing Marvel Studios' 'Captain America: Brave New World'.
The competitive landscape in North American theaters is also favorable. With 'Captain America: Brave New World' having been in theaters for over a month, the outlook for the new release 'Mickey 17' appears promising.
However, with a production budget of $120 million (approximately 1.732 trillion won), the break-even point is close to $300 million (around 4.331 trillion won). The high production costs could pose a significant challenge for its box office success.
'Mickey 17' was released in South Korea on February 28 and has attracted 1.47 million viewers to date. It is set for a worldwide release, including North America, on the 7th, drawing attention to its performance in both the North American and international box office.
