Singer and actress IU has been chosen as the cover star for the special 30th-anniversary edition of 'Cine21'.

Since its inception in April 1995, 'Cine21' has grown alongside the Korean film industry, establishing itself as a leading film media outlet in South Korea. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the magazine is releasing its 1500th issue.

IU, who recently showcased her acting prowess in the Netflix series 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' graces the cover of this milestone issue, reaffirming her presence as an actress.

IU is not only a leading figure in Korean pop music but also an active actress. She has appeared in films like 'Broker' and 'Dream' and is currently impressing audiences in the Netflix original series 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.'
IUA representative from 'Cine21' stated, "IU's fearless exploration across genres aligns with 'Cine21's spirit of challenging the boundaries of film and content industries, making her the perfect choice for our 30th-anniversary cover."

This marks the first time IU has been featured solo on the cover of 'Cine21'. She exudes charm in a photo shoot reminiscent of a vibrant spring spirit. The magazine has produced two different covers for the 1500th issue to highlight IU's diverse appeal.

The 1500th issue will also spotlight the history of 'Cine21' alongside 30 years of Korean cinema. Readers can explore the pivotal moments and significant changes in Korean film documented over the past 1500 issues. Additionally, actors Lee Jun-hyuk and Jeon So-ni share their heartfelt stories about the films they love and are passionate about.

In celebration of the re-release of 'Shiri', a film that marked a turning point for Korean cinema, the issue includes an interview with director Kang Je-gyu discussing 30 years of Korean film.

To commemorate its 30th anniversary, 'Cine21' has unveiled a special emblem and a new slogan: "Cine21, Connecting _____." This slogan reflects the magazine's commitment to bridging the gap between films, filmmakers, the industry, and audiences, and its aspiration to connect with broader stories and new horizons.

The special 30th-anniversary issue will be published on April 1, 2025.
