Disney+ has confirmed the release of 'Spellbound' (literal translation), a highly anticipated collaboration between director Han Jae-rim and stars Suzy and Kim Seon-ho.
Set in 1935 in Gyeongseong, 'Spellbound' tells the story of a painter, Yoon Yi-ho, who is commissioned to paint a portrait of Song Jeong-hwa, a mysterious woman who has not been seen in public for over half a century, filled with rumors and intrigue. The film is directed by Han Jae-rim, known for his unique style and message in movies such as 'The Show Must Go On', 'The Face Reader', 'The King', and 'Emergency Declaration', establishing him as a leading figure in the Korean film industry.
Suzy, who has built a solid filmography with movies like 'Architecture 101', 'Wonderland', and dramas such as 'Gu Family Book', 'While You Were Sleeping', 'Start-Up', and showcased a range of emotional performances in the series 'Anna', winning major awards, will play the role of Song Jeong-hwa.
Song Jeong-hwa, known as the owner of the South Gate Hotel, has remained out of the public eye for over fifty years, sparking numerous mysteries and rumors. Suzy is expected to reveal a new side of herself through the enigmatic and captivating character of Song Jeong-hwa, potentially marking another milestone in her career.
The painter Yoon Yi-ho, who takes on the task of painting Song Jeong-hwa's portrait, is portrayed by Kim Seon-ho, an actor with a broad acting spectrum shown in 'The Childe', the drama 'Start-Up', 'Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha', and the Disney+ original series 'The Tyrant'.
Upon encountering the enigmatic Song Jeong-hwa, Yi-ho's desire to capture her true essence in his painting intensifies. Trapped in a hotel full of secrets, he finds himself increasingly enchanted by her, signaling another transformative role for Kim Seon-ho. The reunion of the two actors, five years after their collaboration in the drama 'Start-Up', has heightened fans' expectations.
'Spellbound' is slated for a global release on Disney+ in 2026.
