Actress Hwang Jung-eum, 41, has had her property seized due to a lawsuit from her ex-husband's company. Amidst their ongoing divorce proceedings, her ex-husband, identified only as Mr. A, has successfully placed a lien on her property, claiming repayment of a loan.
A monthly magazine reported on the 23rd that Mr. A, a former professional golfer turned businessman, filed a lawsuit against Hwang Jung-eum on March 27th at the Seoul Western District Court, demanding the return of 157 million won. Additionally, on the 17th of the previous month, he requested a property seizure, which the court granted on the 30th. It was revealed that two units of a residential building in Seongnae-dong, Seoul, which Hwang purchased in May 2023 for 1.87 billion won, were seized.
In response, Hwang Jung-eum's agency, Y1 Entertainment, stated on the 23rd, "Ms. Hwang has had her property seized amidst the divorce proceedings. The divorce itself is in its final stages and is expected to be amicably resolved soon."
In addition to her divorce, Hwang Jung-eum is also facing trial for embezzling 4.3 billion won from her own company to invest in cryptocurrency.
Regarding this, Hwang Jung-eum conveyed through her agency, "Around 2021, I was advised by someone close to me to try and increase the company's funds through cryptocurrency investment. Without much knowledge about cryptocurrency, I decided to take the plunge. Although it was the company's money, it was earned through my activities, so I believe I made a naive decision. I have repaid a significant portion and will settle the remaining amount," she apologized.
