Scheduled to premiere on June 13th (Friday) at 9:50 PM, the new SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Our Movie' (written by Han Ga-eun and Kang Kyung-min, directed by Lee Jung-heum) tells the urgent love story of a film director, Lee Je-ha (played by Namgoong Min), who has no future, and an actress, Lee Da-eum (played by Jeon Yeo-bin), who believes today could be her last.
The collaboration between Namgoong Min, an actor known for creating phenomena with every character he plays, and Director Lee Jung-heum, has heightened expectations. The two previously worked together on the 2017 SBS drama 'Fabrication'.
Namgoong Min shared, "After discussing with Director Lee Jung-heum, who I worked with 8 years ago, about how we would shoot and express emotions, I spent days pondering. Then, it suddenly hit me that turning down this project would be shameful as an actor. The script was written with such sincerity." This was his reason for choosing 'Our Movie'.
The character of Lee Je-ha, chosen by Namgoong Min after much deliberation, is a once-celebrated genius film director who now cannot release his next work, haunted by the belief that his past glories were all lies. Namgoong Min described his character as, "On the surface, a successful genius director, but internally, he harbors deep wounds of emptiness and disillusionment. If I were to describe the character in terms of keywords or genres, it would be 'silent love' or 'a quiet but deeply resonating emotional melodrama'."
He added, "He prefers to show his feelings through actions rather than words. Although clumsy in expression, his sincerity is deeper than anyone else's. It's truly touching to see him slowly crumble and change only in front of Lee Da-eum."
As this character has a different vibe from those he has played before, Namgoong Min noted, "Lee Je-ha communicates more with his eyes and silence than with words. Although he appears calm and quiet on the outside, he is constantly battling within. I paid a lot of attention to how to express emotions without speaking." He also mentioned that acting this character was challenging yet deeply rewarding.
Moreover, having captivated audiences with his roles in 'STOVE LEAGUE' and 'One Dollar Lawyer' among others, Namgoong Min expressed his concerns about delivering the same level of engagement and emotion to the audience this time. "Whether this becomes a character of a lifetime is ultimately up to the audience, but I've poured all my emotions into this role. You can look forward to it," he said, raising anticipation.
Namgoong Min's heartfelt performance as Lee Je-ha, delivering deep emotions, will be unveiled in 'Our Movie', premiering on June 13th (Friday) at 9:50 PM.
