The court has ruled that the group NewJeans cannot engage in any independent activities until the first trial of the main lawsuit regarding their exclusive contract with ADOR is concluded. If violated, they must pay ADOR a hefty sum in damages.
On the 30th, the 52nd Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court decided in favor of ADOR's application for a 'preliminary injunction to preserve status and prohibit the signing of advertising contracts.' According to the decision, NewJeans must not engage in entertainment activities independently or through a third party without prior approval or consent from their agency until the verdict of the first trial on the validity of the exclusive contract is announced.
Notably, the court also specified a coercive clause, stating that if the NewJeans members violate this decision, they must pay the agency 1 billion won per violation.
Previously, the court had fully granted ADOR's application for a 'preliminary injunction to preserve the agency's status and prohibit the signing of advertising contracts' on March 21. Consequently, NewJeans, who had plans to start independent activities abroad, decided to cancel all plans and focus on the main lawsuit.
The second hearing of the main lawsuit filed by ADOR against the five members of NewJeans to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract is scheduled for next month on the 5th.
