Professional basketball player Heo Ung (31, Busan KCC) filed a criminal complaint against his ex-girlfriend’s then-legal representative, accusing them of inciting false accusations and defamation. However, police have decided not to pursue the case, citing insufficient evidence. In response, the lawyer is now planning to file a counterclaim against Heo Ung for making a false accusation and for retaliatory threats under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
On the 4th, lawyer Noh Jong-eon from Law Firm Jonjae, who represents Heo’s ex-girlfriend (referred to as Ms. A), announced that the police had dismissed both charges—inciting false accusations and defamation via the Information and Communications Network Act—filed by Heo.
Attorney Noh stated, “Since around August or September of last year, Heo Ung’s attorney, Bu Ji-seok, has been publicly disclosing Ms. A’s private life through his Instagram account. Under pressure, Ms. A provided me with a recording of her consultation with her lawyer, which was submitted to the authorities as evidence. However, the recording contains no indication of inciting false accusations.”
Previously, Heo’s side had filed an additional criminal complaint against Ms. A for false accusations, claiming he never assaulted her and that their sexual relationship was consensual. He also filed complaints against attorney Noh and a journalist who had interviewed Ms. A.
Regarding this, attorney Noh said, “This constitutes a serious illegal act that may fall under the category of ‘retaliatory threats’ as defined by the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes,” adding, “I plan to take both civil and criminal legal action against the parties involved, including Heo’s lawyer, for making a false accusation and retaliatory threats.”
Previously, Ms. A had been referred to the prosecution last August after being accused of false allegations by Heo Ung.
