During the press conference for the new SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Our Movie' (written by Han Ga-eun and Kang Kyung-min, directed by Lee Jung-heum) held on the afternoon of the 10th at Yongsan I'Park Mall CGV in Seoul, Namkoong Min and Jeon Yeo-been praised each other while discussing their acting synergy.
'Our Movie' tells the urgent love story of a film director, Lee Je-ha (played by Namkoong Min), who has no future projects, and an actress, Lee Da-eum (played by Jeon Yeo-been), who lives as if today is her last.
Namkoong Min spoke about his approach to melodramatic acting, "I aimed for a realistic and unexaggerated portrayal, focusing on the subtle expressions of sadness and love. Having the right partner is crucial for this, and eye contact plays a significant role. I was pleasantly surprised working with Jeon Yeo-been for the first time." He continued, "She put in so much effort, and it was a turning point for me in the drama, giving me great energy."
He added, "Rather than acting, it felt like we were truly in love on set. This naturalness isn't about pushing the situation to the extreme but rather about expressing it delicately through good chemistry with my partner. I hope the audience will appreciate this aspect."
Namkoong Min's character, Lee Je-ha, is a director who received early acclaim for his genius but has been unable to release a new work for five years. He decides to remake his father's film for his next project and casts the terminally ill actress Lee Da-eum, leading their initial director-actress relationship into deep love.
Jeon Yeo-been remarked, "Didn't he win the grand prize from all three major networks? It's not an ordinary achievement for an actor, and I've always respected him as a junior actor." She also expressed her curiosity about the relationship between Namkoong Min and director Lee Jung-heum, having enjoyed their previous collaboration. "Reading the script for 'Our Movie,' I could hear Namkoong Min's voice in the role of Lee Je-ha. I was eager to see his portrayal in person, and it made my heart flutter," she explained.
On set, Jeon Yeo-been shared, "My respect for him, both as a senior actor and as a person, made it naturally easy for me to love Lee Je-ha. He treated me as an equal partner, encouraging me when I was confused or lacked confidence, without any forcefulness. I could feel our emotions building up layer by layer."
Jeon Yeo-been plays the role of Lee Da-eum, a terminally ill actress who lands the lead role in what could be her final film. Despite her illness, Da-eum's cheerful personality and free spirit drive her to tirelessly pursue her acting dreams. She ends up auditioning for, and being cast in, Je-ha's film, marking her first lead role as she faces the end of her life.
'Our Movie' will follow 'The Haunted Palace' and premiere on the 13th at 9:50 PM.
