Scheduled to premiere on the 25th (Friday), 'The Winning Try' (written by Lim Jin-ah, directed by Jang Young-seok) is a comedic sports drama that follows the unpredictable journey of an eccentric coach, Joo Ga-ram, and the perennially last-place Hanyang High School rugby team as they sprint towards national championship glory. The drama, co-directed by Jang Young-seok of 'Taxi Driver 2' fame and penned by Lim Jin-ah, a winner of the SBS Cultural Foundation's script contest, has garnered attention with the addition of a cast that combines solid acting skills and vibrant energy, including Yoon Kye-sang (as Joo Ga-ram), Lim Se-mi (as Bae I-ji), and Kim Yo-han (as Yoon Sung-jun).
On the 4th, 'Try' released its second teaser, capturing the attention of viewers with the depiction of the new coach Joo Ga-ram and the Hanyang High School rugby team creating miracles.
The teaser shows the rugby team in a humiliating defeat at the start of a game, pushing them to the brink of disbandment and leaving a strong first impression. At that moment, with a shout of "Hold on!", enters Joo Ga-ram, a former rugby idol and Asian Cup MVP. This sets the stage for a tumultuous meeting between the fallen rugby star Joo Ga-ram and the team, sparking curiosity.
Especially, the cross-cutting scenes of the troublemaking rugby team, now outcasts at school, and the unpredictable eccentric coach Joo Ga-ram, promise a wildly entertaining chemistry between them. Notably, a scene where Joo Ga-ram coolly confronts the vice principal declaring the team's disbandment with, "Aren't you ashamed of picking on kids like that?" while sporting an innocent smile, tickles the funny bone. Joo Ga-ram's harmless grin contrasts with his bold counterattack, heralding a rebellion that shakes up the established order.
However, Joo Ga-ram faces a harsh reality. The team captain Yoon Sung-jun coldly rejects him, saying, "I don't accept you as our coach," and his ex-girlfriend Bae I-ji draws a cold line with, "You shouldn't have come back if you left like that, you can't come back." This amplifies curiosity about the past that tarnished Joo Ga-ram's brilliant rugby career.
Joo Ga-ram, with a heartfelt confession that "I may have ruined my career on my own, but these players haven't even started yet," hints at a turning point. The sight of Joo Ga-ram and the rugby team, now united as one in the locker room, along with the narration, "Just watch. That potential! I'll show you," promises a thrilling counterattack and explodes with anticipation. The determination of those aiming to leap from the bottom to the top sends shivers of excitement.
As Joo Ga-ram and the rugby team's journey becomes more intense and heated, the anticipation for the miracles they will create in 'Try' rises.
Set to fill this summer with the energy of passionate youth, 'Try' will premiere on the 25th (Friday) at 9:50 PM, following the currently airing 'Our Movie'.
