Lee Si-young's Ex-Husband Comments on Her Second Pregnancy by IVF Without His Consent

Actress Lee Si-young has shared news of her second pregnancy following her divorce. She became pregnant by implanting an embryo that had been frozen and stored via artificial insemination five years ago.

There was speculation about whether her ex-husband had explicitly consented to this process. However, the ex-husband, Mr. A, stated, "I was initially opposed to the pregnancy, but as a father, I will fulfill my responsibilities."

On the 8th, Lee Si-young confessed on her social media, "I am currently pregnant." She explained, "As our legal relationship was being settled, and the expiration date for the embryo storage was approaching, I had to decide whether to proceed with the implantation or not. Although the other party did not agree, I will bear the full weight of this decision."

This statement sparked controversy online, with some questioning the ethics of proceeding with a pregnancy without the ex-husband's consent.

According to medical law and bioethics law, the use of embryos for in vitro fertilization requires the explicit consent of both parties. However, if the procedure is performed just before the storage period expires, the terms of the prior consent form or treatment agreement may serve as the basis for legal judgment.

Regarding this, Lee Si-young's ex-husband, Mr. A, told Dispatch, "Although we are divorced, we often communicate because we have a child together. When the storage period for the frozen embryos was about to expire, my ex-wife decided to go ahead with the pregnancy. Although I was initially opposed, I have since resolved to take responsibility for the life that will be born. Now that we are expecting a second child, I intend to fulfill my duties as a father. We will consult and do our best in our respective roles for the birth and upbringing of the child."

Meanwhile, Lee Si-young stated, "I hope the decision to bring this new life into the world becomes a meaningful choice in my life. Right now, I am filled with gratitude and will live responsibly on my own to ensure my child lacks nothing."
