A YouTuber in his 20s, who gained notoriety for assaulting a taxi driver old enough to be his father, has finally been sentenced to prison. This YouTuber continued to engage in various criminal activities including fraud, dine-and-dash, and distributing illegal recordings, even uploading videos of these crimes on his YouTube channel to make a profit.
On the 10th, the Jeonju District Court's 2nd Criminal Division (Chief Judge Kim Do-hyung) sentenced Mr. A (28), who was charged with assault, aggravated assault, and fraud, to a heavier sentence of 3 years and 6 months in prison at his appeal trial, compared to the original sentence.
The first trial court had sentenced him to 2 years and 6 months in prison, noting, "The defendant repeatedly committed crimes and showed a complete disregard for the legal order." However, the appellate court agreed with the prosecution's argument that the sentence was too light.
From November 2023 to April of this year, Mr. A engaged in violent acts in Jeonju and Gwangju, including throwing broken glass cups and swinging metal chairs at customers in restaurants and entertainment venues.
He also defrauded an acquaintance of approximately 12.5 million won and failed to pay about 600,000 won to a caregiver he had hired, revealing a pattern of habitual fraud.
The incident that caused the most outrage occurred last February in front of the Jeonju Express Bus Terminal, where he brutally assaulted a taxi driver for not reaching the destination quickly enough. He then posted the video on his YouTube channel with titles like "Man Assaults Taxi Driver Old Enough to Be His Father" and "Tattooed Man Assaults," which led to widespread condemnation.
