The Netflix series 'Squid Game' Season 2 did not secure a nomination for the prestigious Emmy Awards in the United States.

'Squid Game 2' was not named among the nominees for major categories such as Best Drama at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards announced by the Television Academy on the 15th (local time).

The Emmy Awards, which began in 1949, are considered the highest honor in the U.S. television industry, organized by The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS).

The exclusion of 'Squid Game 2' from the nominations came as a surprise to many, including American media outlets like Variety and Forbes, which had anticipated its nomination. They reported, "The sequel to the season that won six Emmys could understandably feel snubbed." They also analyzed that 'Squid Game 2' might not have been highly rated in terms of completion because it essentially ties together with Season 3 as one continuous story.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk had also speculated during the release of Season 2 that it might be challenging to get nominated for Golden Globes and Emmys with Season 2, given its narrative connection to Season 3. He mentioned, "Season 3 might stand a better chance."

This year's Emmy eligibility period covered works released from June 1 last year to May 31 this year. 'Squid Game 2', released last December, was eligible for this year's awards, while 'Squid Game 3', released last month, will be eligible for next year's ceremony.

'Squid Game' Season 1 made history for Korean content by winning six awards out of 14 nominations at the 74th Emmy Awards in 2022, including Best Director for Hwang Dong-hyuk and Best Actor for Lee Jung-jae.

This year's Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles (LA).
