Comedian Lee Soo-geun's representatives have refuted rumors that he sold a building to fund his wife's medical treatment, stating that the sale was unrelated to his family's health issues.
Lee recently put up for sale a three-story building in Sangam-dong, Seoul, for 3 billion won. The property, co-owned by Lee and his wife Park Ji-yeon, was purchased in 2011 and subsequently developed. It once served as the headquarters for comedian Song Eun-yi's content production company, Content Lab VIVO, and is currently vacant.
Speculation arose that the sale was to finance medical expenses as Park Ji-yeon is known to be awaiting a kidney transplant.
Park has been undergoing dialysis treatment after her kidney function deteriorated due to preeclampsia during her second pregnancy in 2011, leading to a kidney transplant from her father. She is now preparing for a second transplant from her brother.
In response, Lee's agency, Big Planet Made, issued a statement on the 16th clarifying that "the sale of the building is a decision based on personal investment judgment and asset management planning, unrelated to the family's health issues." They expressed hope that personal matters would not be exaggerated or misunderstood.
Meanwhile, Park Ji-yeon recently shared on social media that she is in the process of slowly winding down her yogurt bacteria business due to the need to take immunosuppressive drugs, adding, "If the final tests show no issues, I expect to undergo the second kidney transplant around the middle of next month."
