Director Yoon Ga-eun has made headlines with her latest work, "The World of Love," being the first and only Korean film to be officially invited to compete in the Platform section of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival.

"The World of Love" tells the story of an unpredictable 18-year-old high school girl, Joo-in, whose offhand remark starts to shake everyone's world. This film promises to showcase Yoon Ga-eun's exceptional ability to capture the delicate and nuanced emotions of her characters, hinting at an even deeper and richer narrative world.

The Platform section, introduced in 2015, is the Toronto International Film Festival's sole official competition segment, named after a film by the renowned Chinese director Jia Zhangke. It highlights films with outstanding artistic quality and a clear directorial vision, competing for the Platform Award. Notable directors like Barry Jenkins of "Moonlight," William Oldroyd of "Lady Macbeth," and Pablo Larrain of "Jackie" have used this platform as a springboard to global recognition, blending artistry with mass appeal.

Giovanna Fulvi, the festival's head programmer, expressed her excitement about including Yoon Ga-eun's "The World of Love" in the Platform section, praising the director's nuanced portrayal of adolescence, resilience, and personal growth within intimate family dynamics. "It's truly an honor to premiere such a creative director's work at the Toronto International Film Festival for the first time," Fulvi stated.

This marks the first time a Korean film has been selected for the Platform section, setting high expectations for Yoon Ga-eun's performance against other strong contenders. Additionally, "The World of Love" is in the running for the People's Choice Award and the newly established International People's Choice Award, based on audience votes. Notably, the film features newcomer Seo Su-bin, handpicked by Yoon for her exceptional talent, making her glamorous debut at the festival.

Yoon Ga-eun shared her excitement: "I'm thrilled and honored to present this beloved story, created with a fantastic team and brilliant actors, to global audiences through the Toronto International Film Festival. I hope audiences will pay special attention to Seo Su-bin, making her first appearance through 'The World of Love,' and enjoy the thrilling adventure of following the characters into a new world."

Yoon Ga-eun has been a director to watch since winning the Grand Prix at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in 2012 with her short film "Guest," the first Asian film to do so. Her feature debut, "The World of Us," received international acclaim, including an invitation to the 66th Berlin International Film Festival's Generation Kplus section, and numerous awards at home and abroad. Her second feature, "The House of Us," earned high praise from director Bong Joon-ho, who likened her to Abbas Kiarostami and Hirokazu Koreeda for her ability to bring child actors to life on screen. Bong also named her one of the "20 Next Generation Directors to Watch" in a collaboration with the British film magazine Sight & Sound, highlighting her as one of the most exciting new voices in Korean cinema.

"The World of Love" is set to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before its release later this year.
