Julien Kang and Park Ji-eun, who shared their newlywed life on TV Chosun's reality show 'Chosun's Real Romantic', have spoken out about the 'in-law conflict' controversy that erupted after the broadcast.
On the 31st, Julien Kang stated on his social media, "The broadcast only showed a very brief moment of our lives," emphasizing that "it was just a dramatic moment and does not reflect our daily life or relationship as a whole."
He mentioned, "Some people say Ji-eun is a bad wife, but that's not true at all. Ji-eun is the most precious person in my life," clarifying, "When we got married, I moved into Ji-eun's house. It was a place where Ji-eun had been living with her mother even before our marriage, so it's Ji-eun's house, not her mother's."
Especially regarding the scenes of conflict with his mother-in-law depicted in the show, he explained, "If this situation was truly uncomfortable, I would have discussed it with my wife to make changes. We believe our current arrangement is the most beneficial for us, and we are maintaining our lifestyle based on that standard."
He added, "If my mother-in-law wasn't living with us, life would actually be more uncomfortable and difficult," expressing his gratitude towards his mother-in-law. Julien Kang also hoped, "I hope this post will clear up any possible misunderstandings."
Previously on 'Chosun's Real Romantic', scenes included Julien Kang expressing discomfort with the room organized by his mother-in-law or not eating the food prepared by her and opting for diet food instead, raising concerns among viewers.
Park Ji-eun also addressed this on her social media, stating, "The show is just a show, and more than half of it involves intentional staging. It's not 100% reflective of our usual daily life," drawing a line while explaining, "Living with my mother wasn't just a simple choice. We didn't have the financial freedom, and I was responsible for both my mother's living and housing expenses," describing the situation as her taking on the role of the head of the household upon marriage.
She continued, "Saying 'just move out' might sound easy, but in reality, it involves the lives and choices of people. I'm always grateful to Julien for understanding and being with me in this situation." Regarding the portrayal of her mother-in-law in a negative light on the show, she noted, "We had our trials and errors. Initially, we didn't know how to set boundaries, but now we've learned a lot from each other, and such situations as seen on the show no longer exist. Julien has been very understanding of the entire situation, and I've been putting in a lot of effort as well."
Julien Kang, born to a Korean father and a French mother in Canada, is a model and married Park Ji-eun, a fitness YouTuber known as JJ, in May last year.
