During a recent Q&A session on the SBS Life entertainment program 'Queen of Taste Kim Nam-joo,' episode 11, Kim Nam-joo answered viewers' questions, sharing candidly about her life and everything in it that piques the curiosity of her audience.
When asked how she applied the traditional Jewish education method, Havruta, to her children, Kim said, "I really did put in a lot of effort. Wanting to raise my child well, I read more parenting books than any other books in my lifetime. I piled them up and went through them," she shared. "What resonated with me about the Jewish education method was its discussion-based approach, listening to the child's opinions. But did I really manage to do that?" she pondered.
The production team of 'Queen of Taste Kim Nam-joo' responded, "It seems like it. Seeing how your children articulate their thoughts clearly and sophisticatedly suggests they've been trained." Kim reflected, "I feel sorry because the answers were predetermined. Like the Jewish tradition, I would ask for their opinions, but ultimately, I would share my own thoughts."
The production team then asked if she now seeks answers from her children instead, to which Kim replied, "That's the case now. I ask my daughter everything. So, I speak as if I've already raised my kids. (Regarding parenting) I've moved beyond the realm of what I can do. My 40s were the happiest," she shared.
Kim also advised a viewer contemplating having a second child, "You should if you're in a position to. I even considered a third because I just love kids so much." She added, "The best part about raising two was that they were close and less lonely than being an only child. The downside was the mistake of thinking I had to raise the second one just like the first. They're entirely different individuals, so there's no such thing as 'mom practice.' Every time feels like the first, which was hard but not the hardest part," she advised.
In addition to Kim Nam-joo's recommended vacation looks, episode 11 of 'Queen of Taste Kim Nam-joo' will air on the 31st (Thursday) at 8:40 PM. Ahead of the broadcast, content of the same name will also be released on Kim Nam-joo's YouTube channel at 11:45 AM on the same day.
