Climate change is driving agricultural devastation and reducing fish catches, pushing farmers and fishermen into urban poverty. Mega-cities are struggling to cope with surging populations, becoming overwhelmed with human and animal waste, leading to a vicious cycle of pollution. Extreme heatwaves and floods exacerbate the spread of these pollutants, destroying natural habitats and leaving residents to suffer from water contamination and poor sanitation.
In the face of such dire circumstances, the Korea Environmental Corporation is leading the way with its Green ODA (Official Development Assistance) project in Uganda, establishing a fecal sludge management system to address both environmental pollution and sanitation issues simultaneously. This system recycles waste into energy sources or fertilizer, providing new resources to the community and laying the groundwork for sustainable development. Moreover, beyond just infrastructure development, the corporation is also conducting hygiene and waste separation education for locals, enhancing awareness of environmental issues and fostering self-reliant problem-solving capabilities.
Actress Nam Bora and singer EB, known for their deep commitment to environmental protection, have joined this volunteer activity, working alongside local residents to highlight the importance of preserving our environment. Their positive influence is drawing more attention to the cause, offering hope that collective small steps can lead to significant changes in overcoming the climate crisis.
The upcoming SBS environmental documentary "A Small Step for the Earth, Here We Go" aims to vividly capture the reality of climate change and the struggles of those affected, while closely examining the positive changes brought about by the Korea Environmental Corporation and its participants. Through this, viewers are expected to gain a renewed understanding of the severity of environmental issues and reflect on everyone's responsibility and role in securing a sustainable future.
