Renowned Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong is teaming up with Netflix to release his latest work.
Netflix has confirmed the production of Lee Chang-dong's new film 'Possible Love' (literal title), unveiling its star-studded cast.
'Possible Love' tells the story of two couples from opposite walks of life whose worlds intertwine, spreading fractures through the everyday lives of the four individuals.
Jeon Do-yeon, who won Best Actress at the 60th Cannes Film Festival for 'Secret Sunshine', reunites with director Lee Chang-dong. Having received critical acclaim across various genres with Netflix's 'Kill Boksoon', 'Revolver', and the drama '
Crash Course in Romance', Jeon Do-yeon will portray 'Mi-ok', promising a performance of depth and nuance in 'Possible Love'.
Seol Kyung-gu, known for his profound presence in Netflix series 'Storm', 'Hyper Knife', and films 'Kingmaker', 'The Book of Fish', will play 'Mi-ok's husband, 'Ho-seok'. Reuniting with Lee Chang-dong after 'Peppermint Candy' and 'Oasis', anticipation is high for Seol Kyung-gu's new portrayal of 'Ho-seok'. Notably, this marks the fourth collaboration between Jeon Do-yeon and Seol Kyung-gu, heightening expectations for their dynamic synergy in 'Possible Love'.
Playing a couple leading a life diametrically opposed to 'Mi-ok' and 'Ho-seok' are Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong. Zo In-sung, who captivated critics and fans alike with 'Smugglers' and has crossed genres with 'Moving' and 'Escape from Mogadishu', takes on the role of 'Sang-woo'. Cho Yeo-jeong, who clinched the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for 'Parasite' and showcased her remarkable presence in 'Hidden Face', will play 'Ye-ji'. The collaboration of Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong with Lee Chang-dong is highly anticipated.
Lee Chang-dong, celebrated for his profound narratives and meticulous direction both domestically and internationally, has achieved global recognition with films like 'Green Fish', 'Peppermint Candy', 'Oasis', 'Secret Sunshine', 'Poetry', and 'Burning'. His works, capturing the deep facets of Korean society while illuminating universal human nature in his unique way, have consistently earned acclaim from moviegoers and critics worldwide.
Marking Lee Chang-dong's return after eight years, 'Possible Love' will delve into the differing attitudes and conflicts of two couples, capturing the nuanced changes they face and posing profound questions to the audience. Oh Jung-mi, who co-wrote 'Burning', joins Lee Chang-dong as a screenwriter for 'Possible Love', with Pinehouse Film, the production company behind 'Burning', taking on production duties.
For the first time in Lee Chang-dong's career, 'Possible Love' will premiere on Netflix instead of in theaters.
