'Omniscient Reader' Takes Box Office by Storm in Hong Kong Following Success in Taiwan
Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
The film 'Omniscient Reader' is enjoying a successful run in Hong Kong, following its triumph in Taiwan.

'Omniscient Reader' is a fantasy action movie where the world of a novel, which has been serialized for over a decade, becomes reality on the day it concludes. The story follows 'Kim Dokja', the novel's sole reader, who, along with the novel's protagonist 'Yoo Joonghyuk' and his allies, strives to survive in this now-doomed world.

Since its release in Hong Kong on July 31, 'Omniscient Reader' has claimed the top spot in the box office on its opening day. The film's first-week box office revenue exceeded 3.1 million Hong Kong dollars, surpassing 'The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion' and marking the highest figure for a Korean movie released in the region since 2021.

Previously, on July 23, 'Omniscient Reader' made its debut in Taiwan, outperforming the opening scores of 'Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds' and 'Exhuma', showcasing its significant presence abroad. As of August 5, it remains in second place in Taiwan's overall box office rankings, leading the charge for Korean movies released in Taiwan in 2025 with a long-term box office run.

While the domestic performance has been slower, with the movie crossing the 1 million viewers mark in 14 days, the international box office results are promising. 'Omniscient Reader' was pre-sold in 113 countries worldwide before its release, raising high expectations for its international openings and sales. With its success in Taiwan and now Hong Kong, there's growing interest in whether it can compensate for its domestic shortfall.
