Korean-American actor John Cho is set to meet audiences around the world with the Disney+ original series 'Tempest'.
'Tempest' follows the story of 'Moon-ju' (Jun Ji-hyun), a UN ambassador who has gained international fame, as she investigates the mastermind behind a presidential candidate's assassination attempt. Alongside her is 'San-ho' (Gang Dong-won), a stateless special agent who must protect her as they confront a massive truth threatening the Korean peninsula.
The production team released character stills of John Cho, who plays Deputy Secretary of State Anderson Miller, on August 8.
John Cho, known globally for his roles in 'Searching' and the 'Star Trek' series, makes his first appearance in a Korean original series with 'Tempest'.
Cho's character, Anderson Miller, is a Korean-American who has staunchly survived in Washington by supporting policies hostile to Korea. He shares a past with presidential candidate Jun-ik (Park Hae-jun) from their doctoral studies at Georgetown University and holds a crucial clue to the secret behind the assassination attempt in South Korea. The released stills showcase Miller's multifaceted nature, from his sharp gaze while working in the White House to his intense concentration while writing.
John Cho expressed, "When I first read the script, I was deeply impressed and satisfied. It was appealing in many ways - the espionage scenes were intriguing, and the narrative had an incredible pull. The process of exploring the relationships and dynamics between the diverse characters was astonishing," explaining why he was drawn to 'Tempest'.
He also shared, "Working towards a common goal with the Korean production team and building a bond was an experience I'll never forget," reflecting on his meaningful participation in his first Korean original series.
Screenwriter Jung Seo-kyung described Anderson Miller as "a person who makes and acts on choices he believes are right at crucial moments," expressing satisfaction with Cho's portrayal of the character.
Furthermore, "John Cho is not only incredibly intelligent but also a warm person. I learned a lot while working with him. It was an honor to develop this character alongside him," she said, showing her affection for working with Cho.
With the anticipated on-screen chemistry between Jun Ji-hyun and Gang Dong-won, and John Cho's participation, 'Tempest' is set to captivate audiences. It will exclusively premiere on Disney+ with three episodes on September 10 (Wednesday), followed by two episodes every Wednesday starting September 17, totaling nine episodes.
