Ko Hyun-jung & Jang Dong-yoon Stun in First Look at 'The Mantis: Original Sin'
Praying Mantis'The Mantis: Original Sin' marks the beginning of a dramatic transformation in acting for Ko Hyun-jung and Jang Dong-yoon.

The new SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'The Mantis: Original Sin' (written by Lee Young-jong, directed by Byun Young-joo) is set to premiere on September 5th. This high-intensity crime thriller unfolds as a brutal serial killer known as 'Mantis' is caught after 20 years, and a copycat crime occurs. To solve this case, a detective, who has harbored a lifelong hatred for 'Mantis'―his own mother―unexpectedly teams up with her.

On the 13th, the first teaser video for 'The Mantis: Original Sin' was released. The unveiled teaser has more than satisfied the high expectations of potential viewers with its intensity and uniqueness. Above all, the presence of Ko Hyun-jung and Jang Dong-yoon, playing the roles of the serial killer mother and detective son, was incredibly powerful.

The first teaser of 'The Mantis: Original Sin' begins with Ko Hyun-jung and Jang Dong-yoon sitting opposite each other. Jang Dong-yoon coldly says to a pale Ko Hyun-jung, "It's warm. The hand that killed five." Soon after, the reason for Jang Dong-yoon's coldness towards Ko Hyun-jung is revealed. Ko Hyun-jung says, "I should have torn off every part attached to that guy's body..." revealing the brutal words that only a killer could utter without hesitation.

The video quickly alternates between scenes of Ko Hyun-jung looking over the crime scene, smiling as she commits murder, and seemingly getting caught up in the excitement of recalling the moment of the murder. Like the splatters of bright red blood on Ko Hyun-jung's face, each scene sends chills down the spine.

However, the relationship between the serial killer mother Ko Hyun-jung and detective son Jang Dong-yoon begins to face turmoil as a brutal copycat murder shakes the city. Additional police officers, played by Jo Sung-ha (as Choi Jung-ho) and Lee El (as Kim Na-hee), are brought in to solve the case. The contrast between the three dedicated officers pouring everything into preventing further victims and Ko Hyun-jung's still bizarrely smiling face leaves a deep impression.

Son Jang Dong-yoon harshly criticizes his mother Ko Hyun-jung, saying, "You're a butcher who loves the smell of blood, a Mantis, just a monster!" The teaser ends, leaving viewers wondering what will happen to serial killer mother Ko Hyun-jung and detective son Jang Dong-yoon as the serial killings from 20 years ago start again, drawing them into a shocking situation.

Despite its relatively short duration of about 40 seconds, the first teaser of 'The Mantis: Original Sin' powerfully captures the relationship between the serial killer mother Ko Hyun-jung and detective son Jang Dong-yoon, showcasing the dramatic transformation in their acting. The storyline of the copycat murder and the pursuit of the perpetrator is also intuitively presented. The overall grotesque and sensual atmosphere of the drama is hinted at, raising expectations for the show.

'The Mantis: Original Sin' will follow the currently airing 'The Winning Try' and is set to premiere on Friday, September 5th, at 9:50 PM.
