The Yoona and Ahn Bo-hyun vehicle ‘Pretty Crazy’ opened at No. 2 at the Korean box office.
According to the Korean Film Council’s KOBIS box-office tracker on the 14th, ‘Pretty Crazy’ drew 48,561 admissions nationwide on its Aug. 13 opening day, landing in second place. ‘My Daughter Is a Zombie’ pulled in 90,556 the same day, securing the top spot for the 15th straight day.
‘Pretty Crazy’ is a demonic-possession comedy about Gil-gu (Ahn Bo-hyun), an unemployed twentysomething who takes a bizarre side gig watching over Seon-ji (Yoona), a woman who wakes up as a demon every dawn. It’s the latest film from Lee Sang-geun, the director of ‘Exit,’ which sold 9 million tickets, with Yoona and Ahn leading the cast.
With fewer than 50,000 admissions on day one, the early trajectory looks soft. The film will need a holiday-weekend bump over Liberation Day on the 15th to stay competitive, especially with ‘My Daughter Is a Zombie’ still strong in its third week and ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Infinity Castle’ opening next week.
