Director Yoon Ga-eun and lead actors Seo Soo-bin and Jang Hye-jin of the film “The World of Love” are officially headed to the Toronto International Film Festival.
“The World of Love” has been selected for Platform―the competitive section at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival―as the first-ever and only Korean title in the lineup. Yoon, along with stars Seo and Jang, will attend the festival to meet local press and audiences.
The film follows Ju-in, an unpredictable 18-year-old whose spur-of-the-moment outburst sends ripples through everyone around her. It’s the latest from Yoon Ga-eun, who made a splash with her debut "The World of Us" and cemented her voice with "The House of Us." Showcasing Yoon’s signature sensitivity to delicate emotional shifts, the film also spotlights breakout newcomer Seo Soo-bin, a fresh face discovered by the director.
Marking a first for Korean cinema in Platform―and the only Korean film in that competitive section this year―“The World of Love” will world premiere in Toronto on Sept. 7 at 2:30 p.m. local time, with additional screenings on Sept. 8 and Sept. 14.
Yoon, Seo, and Jang will participate in post-screening Q&A sessions at the Sept. 7 world premiere and the second official screening on Sept. 8.
Making her festival debut, Seo Soo-bin said, “It’s an honor to stand on an international stage like TIFF with a project by Yoon Ga-eun, a filmmaker I’ve admired for so long. I hope audiences feel the same emotion I did when I first read the script for 'The World of Love.'” Jang Hye-jin―who helped lead 'Parasite' from Cannes to the Oscars―added, “I’m thrilled to attend TIFF with a film by Yoon Ga-eun, a director I love and have worked with since 'The World of Us.' I’m so curious and excited to see how audiences respond.”
“The World of Love” will open in Korea this October following its TIFF bow.
