'The Winning Try' Stars Tease the Finale: "Stay With Us to the End"
The Winning TryWith the series headed into its final week, "The Winning Try" leads Yoon Kye-sang, Lim Se-mi and Kim Yohan are sharing the key moments to watch in the last two episodes.

SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama "The Winning Try" (written by Lim Jin-a; directed by Jang Young-seok) is a feel-good sports dramedy about maverick coach Joo Garam and the perennial underdogs of Hanyang Sports High School’s rugby team charging toward a National Sports Festival title. Episodes 9 and 10 peaked at 7.4% nationwide, with a 2.96% high among viewers 20-49, and the show ranked No. 2 in the social buzz category on Good Data Corporation’s FUNdex for the week of Aug. 18?24 ― proof it’s winning both ratings and conversation.

What’s driving the love? The series blends heart, humor and a dash of romance, anchored by Yoon Kye-sang’s all-in turn as Joo Garam; a rousing underdog arc as the last-place rugby squad learns teamwork; an easy-to-cheer momentum; and rich relationships across coaches, players, rivals, friends and would-be lovers.

To help ease the sting of having only two episodes left, the production released the cast’s own “finale watch list” on Aug. 29, spotlighting what fans should look out for in the home stretch.

Yoon Kye-sang, hailed for disappearing into Joo Garam, points to “a miracle that never gives up” as his final tease. “The fiery harmony we captured while braving the cold will shine through to the very end,” he says. “I’m certain that this miracle of not giving up will set your hearts on fire. Please stay with us to the end.”

Lim Se-mi, who’s earned praise for her nuanced turn as assistant coach Bae Yi-ji, adds, “There’s real joy in watching these kids ― who’ve given everything for their dreams ― finish the game on their terms.” She continues, “At the same time, keep an eye on the choices the teachers, Joo Garam and Bae Yi-ji make as adults. Watch with love right up to the end.”

Kim Yohan, who’s charmed viewers as Yoon Sung-joon with his fierce passion for rugby and sweet crush moments, promises, “The much-anticipated National Sports Festival match finally unfolds,” noting that “the trust between Coach Joo and the team ― and their beautiful goodbye ― will be key.” He adds, “We’ve got a few cute beats in store, too, so please stay with us through the finale.”

"The Winning Try" airs Episode 11 on Aug. 29 at 9:50 p.m. KST and concludes with Episode 12 on Aug. 30.
