"KPop Demon Hunters", the Netflix animated hit that sparked a global craze, is gearing up for a sequel.

Variety reported on the 26th (local time) that Sony and Netflix have entered early talks to develop the follow-up. As with the first installment, co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans are expected to return.

During her Seoul visit on the 22nd, director Maggie Kang signaled she’s on board for more. Asked about a sequel, she said, “Nothing’s official yet. This film centered on Rumi, but we’ve already sketched out backstories for other members Zoey and Mira. There are still plenty of unanswered questions and unexplored territory,” fueling anticipation.

"KPop Demon Hunters" follows HUNTR/X, a K-pop girl group who moonlight as Demon Hunters, taking on fearsome Revenants. Since premiering on Netflix in June, the film has dominated the global streaming conversation for nearly two months.

By its 10th week, the film amassed 236 million views, becoming the most-watched Netflix Original movie to date. The soundtrack is a stateside smash, too: HUNTR/X’s "Golden" has ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks.

And it’s not just "Golden." Eight soundtrack cuts in total ― including "Your Idol," "Soda Pop," and "How It’s Done" ― have landed on the chart for seven straight weeks, keeping the momentum red-hot.
