Yang Hyun-min♥Choi Chamsarang Reveal Pregnancy After 9 IVF Tries; 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2' Tops Ratings
You're My DestinySBS’ "Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny" held onto the No. 1 spot among Monday variety shows as actors Yang Hyun-min and Choi Chamsarang shared tearful, long-awaited news: they’re expecting after nine rounds of IVF, drawing a wave of congratulations and support.

According to Nielsen Korea, the Sept. 1 broadcast of "Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny" scored a 3.3% household rating in the Seoul capital area and a 1.2% in the key 20?49 demo, leading its time slot and all Monday variety programs. It also ranked No. 1 across all variety, drama, and factual shows in the 20-49 demo that night, with minute-by-minute ratings peaking at 3.9%.

As part of the series’ 400th-episode relay special, Yang and Choi returned to the show, delighting viewers. About five months ago, the couple drew empathy and tears as they opened up about everyday joys and struggles―and revealed they had tried IVF five times over two years while hoping for a baby. This week, they announced, “We’re going to be Mom and Dad.”

Yang shared that after switching to a clinic the show connected them with, the procedure finally worked―on the first try there―marking success after nine IVF attempts overall. “Meeting 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny' led us to becoming parents, and I’m grateful,” he said.

Recalling the moment they learned the news, Yang broke down. “I’ve wanted to be a dad so badly, and I used to wonder if I’d ever hear someone call me ‘Dad.’ Someday our baby will say it to me―that’s overwhelming,” he said. “The physical part of IVF is tough, but the hardest thing was the failures―eight of them. Each time, we asked ourselves, ‘What are we lacking? Did we do something wrong?’ That weighed on us more than anything.” He added, “I’m not the one carrying the baby―how could I pressure her? But my wife bravely stepped forward. She made me a dad. I’m so thankful, and I need to be better for her.”

The two enjoyed a sweet “maternity perks” date at Gyeongbokgung Palace and a cafe, bringing along their unborn baby, nicknamed “Ange.” Yang doted on his wife and proudly shared the pregnancy news with strangers, radiating unabashed dad-to-be energy.

Later, they stopped by a baby goods store. “At department stores, we used to walk straight past the kids’ section without a word,” Choi said, adding they even avoided shows featuring children. Yang echoed, “For five or six years, I never even said ‘That’s cute’ when we saw kids―because I worried it would pressure us both.”

At their fertility clinic, the couple went in for a final checkup before “graduation.” “It really feels like graduating―better than graduating school,” they said, handing their doctor a handwritten thank-you letter. During the ultrasound, they met 12-week-old Ange, beaming from ear to ear, and listened to the baby’s heartbeat. “It’s a wondrous experience,” Yang said. “Even the sound is beautiful.”

The episode also featured a gender reveal with actors Park Sung-woong and Kim Sung-kyun, who cooked abalone porridge for Choi to ease her morning sickness and set up balloons and a paint-splatter surprise. At the big moment, pink paint splashed onto the couple’s clothes―confirming a girl―prompting cheers from Yang, who had quietly hoped for a daughter. “I grew up in a house full of boys,” he said. “I wanted a daughter who takes after Sarang.”

In closing, Yang told his wife, “I’m grateful beyond words. I’ll do even better by your side. Let’s be the coolest mom and dad for Ange.” Fighting back tears, Choi replied, “Thank you, too. We got through this together.” Yang answered, “You’re the one who endured it all―I only watched from the side. You’re incredible.”
