Jun Ji-hyun & Gang Dong-won Finally Team Up in 'Tempest': "I've Been His Longtime Fan―Now an Even Bigger One"
Jun Ji-hyun and Gang Dong-wonActors Jun Ji-hyun and Gang Dong-won shared what it was like to finally work together on screen.

At a Sept. 2 press conference for Disney+ original series "Tempest" (written by Jung Seo-kyung; directed by Kim Hee-won and Heo Myeong-haeng) held at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul, cast members Jun Ji-hyun, Gang Dong-won, Lee Mi-sook, Park Hae-joon, Kim Hae-sook, Yoo Jae-myung, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-hee, and Joo Jong-hyuk joined directors Kim Hee-won and Heo Myeong-haeng to preview the show and drum up excitement.

"Tempest" follows Moon-ju (Jun Ji-hyun), a UN ambassador with international clout, as she tracks the forces behind an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate. Alongside her is San-ho (Gang Dong-won), a shadowy special-ops agent of uncertain nationality tasked with protecting her, as the two confront a truth with stakes that threaten the Korean Peninsula. The project has drawn outsized buzz for uniting two top stars who had never previously shared the screen.

“One big reason I chose 'Tempest' was that I wanted to work with Dong-won―before it got any later,” Jun said.

“I’ve been a longtime fan,” she added. “I first admired his looks, but getting to know the person on set made me like him even more. With him as San-ho, the synergy for Moon-ju was undeniable.”

Gang returned the praise: “I completely fell for Ji-hyun’s charm on this project. She brought so much joy to set that filming was genuinely happy for me. I kept thinking, ‘She’s truly incredible.’”

"Tempest" teams screenwriter Jung Seo-kyung ("Decision to Leave," "Little Women") with director Kim Hee-won ("Queen of Tears," "Vincenzo") and director Heo Myeong-haeng ("The Roundup: Punishment," "Badland Hunters"). With its A-list cast, prestige creative team, and a sprawling, unpredictable plot, the Disney+ original series premieres with three episodes on Wednesday, Sept. 10, followed by two episodes weekly starting Sept. 17, for a total of nine episodes.
