ASTRO member-actor Cha Eun-woo was named an honor trainee and led the ceremonial salute at his military training graduation―prompting onlookers to say the moment felt “like a movie set.”
According to attendees, Cha took the podium as his company’s representative during the Sept. 2 ceremony at the Army Training Center in Nonsan, South Chungcheong, rallying his fellow recruits with crisp commands. The honor trainee distinction is awarded for exemplary conduct and top marks in training.
A photo shared online shows Cha commanding the salute in front of his cohort. After the ceremony, he also received words of encouragement from the training center’s leadership.

Ahead of the graduation, posts about his life at the training center made the rounds online. One user claimed that during a week when Cha handled dishwashing duty, fellow trainees kept bringing him their plates just to catch a closer look. Another joked that even with a buzz cut he was so handsome, it was hard to hold eye contact.
Cha enlisted on July 28, completed basic training, and will continue his service with the Republic of Korea Army Band.
He is scheduled to be discharged on Jan. 27, 2027.
