Actor Moon So-ri is amplifying a call for a world without hunger alongside the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

Seoul ― The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Korea Office, led by Country Director Lee Hyun-ji, announced on Sept. 8 that Moon has joined its push to end global hunger.

In a video released Sept. 8 across WFP’s YouTube and Instagram channels, Moon spotlights the severity of the global food crisis and urges broader public attention and support.

The short film highlights WFP’s mission and field operations; the organization is the world’s largest humanitarian agency and the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. In the clip, Moon introduces WFP’s frontline response to hunger and reflects on South Korea’s transformation from aid recipient to donor nation.

“I grew up hearing from my parents about the days when Korea relied on overseas assistance,” Moon says. “Through this project, I learned that among UN agencies, WFP provided some of the most significant support to our country. It’s an honor to give back and lend my voice to that effort. I deeply believe in WFP’s conviction that food is the path to peace, and I hope this campaign helps more people discover WFP and get involved.”

“We’re truly grateful that one of Korea’s leading actors, Moon So-ri, is raising her voice to help address the food crisis,” said Lee Hyun-ji, head of WFP’s Korea Office. “We hope many will resonate with her message and join WFP on the journey toward Zero Hunger.”

WFP shares a special history with Korea. From 1964 to 1984, Korea received WFP support; today, the country is among WFP’s top backers and, in 2024, became one of its five largest government donors. Under the motto “Saving Lives, Changing Lives,” WFP rushes life-saving aid to people hit by conflict, disasters and climate shocks, while helping vulnerable communities build long-term self-reliance.

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and helping people affected by conflict, disasters and climate impacts move toward peace, stability and prosperity through food assistance.
