"Tempest" follows celebrated U.N. ambassador Moon-ju (Jun Ji-hyun), who hunts the forces behind an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate. Assigned to protect her is San-ho (Gang Dong-won), a stateless black-ops agent, and together they confront a conspiracy that threatens the Korean Peninsula. Episodes 1-3 drop today.
The newly released stills tease Moon-ju and San-ho’s pursuit of the truth in the wake of the shocking attack that rattled the nation.
In one sequence, Moon-ju heads to the Peace and Forgiveness Church with Jun-ik (Park Hae-joon), while security lead Chang-hee (Joo Jong-hyuk) navigates a sea of sign-waving protesters―an ominous calm before the storm. A gunshot shatters a Mass for peaceful reunification, chaos erupts, and as Moon-ju stares down a gun barrel, torn between fear and fury, San-ho dives in at the last second to save her. Afterward, with questions piling up, Moon-ju tries to track him down―“Please tell Baek San-ho I’m looking for him”―but the enigmatic operative vanishes without a trace.
Another still shows San-ho mid-operation, exuding steely black-ops charisma as he brushes off a protection request: “I don’t think I need to get involved. She’s stronger than she looks.” Meanwhile, a drained yet resolute Moon-ju sits in an ambulance, suggesting the threats are only escalating. As tempests close in, the pair move forward―wary of each other yet in lockstep toward the truth―promising crackling chemistry and a twist-filled espionage romance poised to hook global audiences.
The creative dream team includes screenwriter Jung Seo-kyung ("Decision to Leave," "Little Women"), director Kim Hee-won ("Queen of Tears," "Vincenzo"), and filmmaker Heo Myung-haeng ("The Roundup: Punishment," "Badland Hunters"). With A-list leads, top-tier creatives, and globe-spanning scale, "Tempest" premieres with three episodes today, then rolls out two episodes weekly every Wednesday starting Sept. 17, for a nine-episode season.
