On Sept. 11, the Buil Film Awards named Jang as this year’s recipient of the Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award, a special honor celebrating artists who embody the bold, forward-looking spirit of the late master filmmaker Yu Hyun-mok, a past Buil best director winner.
“‘A Normal Family’ aligns with the realism and humanism championed by director Yu Hyun-mok. Jang delivers a transformative turn as a deeply authentic father,” said Yang Yun-ho, vice chair of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC). “That relentless pursuit of new possibilities and devotion to cinema―values Yu upheld even into his seventies―was a key reason behind this selection.”
The 34th Buil Film Awards, already drawing buzz with hosts Kim Nam-gil and Chun Woo-hee, will reveal winners across 16 categories, including the Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award announced today.
The pre-show handprinting and red-carpet events will stream live on Naver’s CHZZK platform and on Naver TV starting Thursday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. KST.
