Singer Kim Jong-kook shared his surprise marriage news ― and the heartfelt reason he kept it under wraps.
On his YouTube channel, "GYM JONG KOOK," the star posted a behind-the-scenes video from his wedding, personally confirming the marriage and showing friends reacting to the news. “My wife doesn’t like attention, so we wanted to keep it quiet,” he said. “I even thought about announcing it after the fact, so we held a small ceremony with only our closest friends.”
He added, “Thank you, truly, for all the congratulations. I’m sorry we couldn’t share more in real time since we kept things low-key for personal reasons.”
In the video, Kim breaks the news to Yoo Jae-suk, HAHA, Ji Suk-jin, Song Ji-hyo, and Yang Se-chan from "Running Man," as well as Seo Jang-hoon, Jonathan, Shorry J, model Joo Woo-jae, and attorney Park Min-cheol. His inner circle couldn’t believe he’d be tying the knot in just two weeks, reacting with a mix of shock and cheers that made for plenty of laughs.
As for why he decided to marry, Kim kept it simple: “What was the deciding factor? Love.” He continued, “I’ve lived the first 50 years my way. For the next 50, I want to live for my partner. Having a family makes me want to work even harder. Nothing’s changing ― I’m just going to give even more.”
Kim also addressed swirling rumors about his bride on the Sept. 11 episode of KBS2’s "Problem Child in House Season 2."
“Of all the fake news out there, nothing’s true except her gender,” he said. “She’s not 20 years younger, and she doesn’t work in fitness.” Comedian Kim Sook quipped, “Be honest ― is there even a bride? Is she a hologram?” drawing laughter on set.
