Rhee Min-jung is putting her YouTube clout to work for husband Lee Byung-hun’s new film.
CJ ENM announced that a new video on YouTube channel “Rhee Min-jung MJ,” featuring director Park Chan-wook alongside stars Lee Byung-hun and Park Hee-soon, will go live today (Sept. 16) at 6 p.m. KST. The conversation spotlights "No Other Choice", which bowed in the main competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and will open the 30th Busan International Film Festival.
Rhee accompanied Lee to Venice in late August. "No Other Choice" marks the first Korean feature in 13 years to compete at Venice, and Lee was an official guest of the festival―so Rhee boarded the flight to cheer him on in person.
The trip wasn’t without a brief flap: a photo she took in front of a statue of Jesus while carrying a luxury bag sparked online criticism. It was quickly clarified that the location wasn’t a church but a hotel event space and restaurant that preserved a wall from a former church.
“I’m a Christian, not Catholic, but if anyone was uncomfortable with me being near what looked like an altar, I’m sorry―and I’ll be more mindful,” Rhee said, cooling the controversy just as fast as it started.
More than a plus-one moment, Rhee’s Venice visit doubled as promo for "No Other Choice". Park Chan-wook, Lee Byung-hun and Park Hee-soon sat down on “Rhee Min-jung MJ” to talk all things film, and Rhee’s Venice vlog is also set to drop soon.
