HYBE and Geffen Records’ global girl group KATSEYE brought the GRAMMY Museum to its feet.
On Sept. 18 (local time), just over a year into their debut, KATSEYE took the Spotlight stage at the GRAMMY Museum’s Ray Charles Rooftop Terrace in Los Angeles.
Spotlight is the Museum’s in-house performance-and-conversation series that shines a light on rising talent. Past guests include GRAMMY-winning rapper Doechii, singer-songwriter and fashion favorite Madison Beer, and indie-pop trio almost monday.
In a candid Q&A, KATSEYE looked back on a whirlwind first year and teased what’s next. They also signaled plans to hit the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April, hinting that what’s already out won’t be enough and that new music is coming ― drawing loud cheers.
Hitting the stage in edgy black looks, KATSEYE delivered a hit-filled set: “Gabriela,” which has been roaring back up the global charts; “Touch,” one of two title tracks from their debut EP *SIS (Soft Is Strong)*; and April release “Gnarly.” With razor-sharp choreography and steady, confident vocals, they owned the rooftop, while the crowd fueled the moment with full-voice sing-alongs and screams.
Formed via "The Debut: Dream Academy" ― a global audition project that drew 120,000 applicants ― KATSEYE embodies HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk’s push to globalize the K-pop playbook. After training through HYBE America’s T&D (Training & Development) system, the group debuted in the U.S. last June. This November, they’ll launch their first North American headline tour, with every date already sold out.
