Sul Kyung-gu is doubling down on his trust in director Byun Sung-hyun.

Speaking at the production briefing for "Good News" on the morning of Oct. 14, the actor said, "It’s our fourth project together, so I hesitated at first, but I’m glad we did it. Every story felt different and new."

Sul and Byun first teamed up on 2017’s "The Merciless," then reunited for "Kingmaker" (2022) and Netflix’s "Kill Boksoon" (2023). The run has fueled what many call a second-act reinvention for the veteran star.

In "Good News", Sul plays a mysterious fixer known only as “Amuge” ― Korean for “so-and-so.” "He’s an enigma, someone who’s everywhere and nowhere ― a man who longs for a real name," Sul said, adding, "I also worked to make him look intentionally out of step with everyone around him."

Director Byun Sung-hyun recalled watching Sul’s past work to shape the character. "I wrestled with a lot of ideas, but during our very first camera test, even his walk was perfect," he said, highlighting their easy chemistry.

Set in the 1970s, "Good News" follows a ragtag group plotting an audacious plan to force a hijacked plane to land ― a tale inspired by the real-life Yodogo hijacking of Japan Airlines Flight 351. The film stars Sul Kyung-gu alongside Hong Kyung and Ryu Seung-bum.

"Good News" lands on Netflix Oct. 17.
