Mukbang star Tzuyang got emotional after comedian Shin Dong-yup offered a heartfelt pep talk and words of comfort.
On Oct. 20, Shin’s YouTube channel “Zzan Bro” welcomed actor Ahn Jae-hyun and Tzuyang, who are appearing on the variety series “Where Will It Bounce?” (literal title) Tzuyang turned the get-together into a party with a jaw-dropping eating streak, polishing off pizza, fried chicken and spicy tteokbokki rice cakes in rapid succession.
As the drinks flowed, Tzuyang opened up about joining the show. “It’s my first regular TV show gig. Honestly, I’m not funny―my personality isn’t funny―so I worried people might take me too seriously,” she admitted.
Shin reassured her: “You don’t need to be funny. You, just as you are, are fascinating. Your smile is beautiful, and watching you eat naturally makes people happy. It’s not about punchlines―viewers simply feel good watching you.”
His words brought Tzuyang to tears. “I never used to cry, and I’ve been too busy to get sentimental, but lately I’m feeling a lot more,” she said, wiping her eyes.
Encouraging her to let it out, Shin shared his own rough patch: “Years ago I got in deep after I lent my name as a guarantor for a business. I’d finish a show and find 300 missed calls. I kept thinking, ‘What am I even doing?’ and I couldn’t focus on work,” he recalled. “Now that I’m older and a bit wiser, I try to look around me. When we see someone eat with genuine joy, it makes us happy too. Because you eat with pure happiness, watching you feels good,” he added, speaking to why viewers connect with Tzuyang.
The crew even headed to a second round at a pork belly spot, joking that Tzuyang might not be full yet.
Proving her legendary appetite―and tolerance―Tzuyang later posted a photo from home, where she cooked and slurped three packs of ramen after the hangout, once again living up to her “real-deal mukbang YouTuber” reputation.
