Kang Ha-neul’s new comedy "The First Ride" is off to a blazing start, holding the No. 1 spot in advance ticket sales on its opening day.

According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) on the 29th, "The First Ride" commanded 28.3% of presales with 84,000 tickets booked, ranking first in both share and volume. The film has led the presales chart for the 10 days leading up to release, underscoring strong audience anticipation.

Attention now turns to whether it can dethrone "Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc," which has topped the Korean box office for three straight weeks and is eyeing the 3 million-admission milestone. With a presales advantage on both fronts, "The First Ride" is tracking for a No. 1 debut at the Korean box office.

"The First Ride" is a breezy buddy comedy about five friends of 24 years whose first overseas trip goes hilariously off the rails: the all-in Tae-jung (Kang Ha-neul), sunny optimist Do-jin (Kim Young-kwang), heartthrob Yeon-min (Cha Eun-woo), chronic catnapper Geum-bok (Kang Young-seok), and the ever-adorable Ok-sim (Han Sun-hwa). The film is the latest from Nam Dae-joong, who scored a 2 million-admission hit with 2023’s "Love Reset."

The movie opens nationwide in Korea today (the 29th).
