R&B/soul mainstay Bumkey is carrying the torch with a heartfelt remake of the late Wheesung’s classic.
At 6 p.m. KST on Oct. 30, Bumkey will drop his reimagined take on "I'm Missing You," a standout from Wheesung’s second album, "It's Real." The project was made with the full consent of Wheesung’s family and channels Bumkey’s respect and affection for the singer into every note.
The two previously teamed up on the duet "How Much Is Your Love," and for this version, Bumkey set out to honor the original’s emotion while adding his own color. Expect rich feeling and nuanced vocals that aim to deliver a fresh kind of catharsis.
Positioned as a bridge between generations, the remake stays true to R&B/soul at its core while tapping a contemporary sensibility―underscoring Bumkey as a keeper of the lineage Wheesung helped build.
Ahead of the release, Brand New Music rolled out teasers across its official social channels. A lyric-video snippet landed Oct. 28, followed by a live performance clip teaser on Oct. 29 that quickly drew attention.
In the footage, Bumkey keeps the delivery restrained rather than showy, letting the song’s weight do the talking.
"Through this remake, Bumkey wanted to pay deep respect to Wheesung’s music," Brand New Music said in a statement, adding that they aimed for a high level of craftsmanship befitting the responsibilities of R&B/soul.
Bumkey’s "I'm Missing You" arrives Thursday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. KST on major streaming platforms.
