To celebrate Byun Woo-seok’s birthday, fans donated 2 million won to Indie Space’s “Sharing Seat” program in support of Korean independent cinema.
On Oct. 31, 2025, the fan collective Woohaengdan (short for “Woo-seok’s Happiness Squad”) joined the initiative by engraving a nameplate reading “Actor Byun Woo-seok” on seat F13 in Indie Space’s auditorium, signaling their ongoing backing of indie films.
“We recently learned that Byun Woo-seok helped fund the Seoul Independent Film Festival’s production support initiative, and we wanted to stand with him in championing the meaningful value of independent films,” Woohaengdan said, explaining the birthday-driven donation.

Indie Space will mark the donation with a special screening of “Soulmate” (dir. Min Yong-keun) on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1:30 p.m. In the film, Byun plays Jin-woo, a steadfast presence beside Mi-so and Ha-eun whose quiet loyalty deepens the trio’s bond and emotional pull.
Opened in 2007 as Korea’s first privately run theater dedicated to independent films, Indie Space showcases a wide range of local indies through releases, retrospectives and special programs. Its “Sharing Seat” donor program recognizes contributions of 2 million won or more by engraving the donor’s name on a theater seat―a tradition sustained since the venue’s 2012 relaunch with support from audiences, filmmakers, actors and film organizations.
