The 44-year-old balladeer, Sung Si-kyung, who reportedly suffered significant financial losses at the hands of a manager he worked with for a decade, shared how hard it’s been: “Having my trust broken by someone I cared for like family was anything but easy.”
On the 3rd, Sung took to social media, writing, “A lot has happened this year. I’m sorry to anyone who felt uneasy reading the news.” He continued, “These past few months have been grueling. In my 25 years since debut, having my trust shattered by someone I treated like family isn’t new, but even at my age, it never gets easier.”
He added, “I didn’t want to worry anyone or fall apart, so I tried to keep up my routine and act fine. But while filming YouTube and pushing through scheduled shows, I realized my body, mind, and voice took a real hit.” He explained that’s why he hasn’t finalized plans for his year-end concerts.
“Honestly, I kept asking myself whether I can―or even should―be on stage right now,” he said. “I want to be in a place where I can confidently say I’m okay, mentally and physically. I’ll make a decision and update you by the end of this week at the latest.”
He closed with a note to fans: “Like always, this will pass. I’m grateful we caught it before it got any worse, and I’ll do my best so you don’t have to worry.”
His agency, SK Jaewon, said in a statement on the 3rd, “It has been confirmed that Sung Si-kyung’s former manager engaged in actions that betrayed the company’s trust. Our internal review recognized the seriousness of the matter, and we are currently verifying the exact scope of the damages.”
The company added, “The employee has already left the company. We acknowledge our responsibility in oversight and are overhauling our internal management system to prevent a recurrence.”
According to local reports, the employee at the center of the case is a manager who worked with Sung for more than 10 years and handled day-to-day operations. The alleged misconduct caused financial losses not only to Sung but also to outside vendors and associates. While the exact amount hasn’t been disclosed, it’s been described as “significant.”
