At their first hearing, a livestreamer―referred to in court as A―and her boyfriend, B, admitted to all charges stemming from a case in which they drugged and sexually assaulted a woman and filmed the incident. Both Defendants are currently in custody.
During proceedings on the 18th at Suwon District Court’s Criminal Division 13, prosecutors charged the pair under South Korea’s Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, including aggravated sexual assault and illegal filming. The two Defendants told the court they acknowledge the indictment in full.
According to the indictment, on August 27 at a rental pension in Jebudo, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, the Defendants allegedly spiked C’s drink with a sleeping aid, impaired her consciousness, then assaulted her and recorded the act on video. The case moved to trial after the Women and Children’s Crimes Unit of the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office indicted both in detention on September 22.
Court records show the Defendants have repeatedly petitioned for leniency by submitting apology letters and various pledges since the indictment was filed.
In particular, A filed 17 apology letters between October 21 and November 18, along with separate documents including a pledge to obey the law, a pledge to prevent reoffending, a volunteer service plan, and a life plan.
B also submitted apology letters and reading reflections in October and November to express remorse.
The court continued the hearing and set the next date for December 8.
