Actor Jang Dong-joo has broken his silence nearly three weeks after he sparked concern with a stark "I'm sorry" post and briefly went off the grid, issuing a public apology.
"I sincerely apologize to the drama teams, producers, my agency, and to my family and friends for the worry I caused by being unreachable," Jang said in a statement, explaining that overlapping personal matters prompted him to step back and take time to reset. "The delayed communication is entirely my fault, and I won't make excuses."
Starting acting at 15, Jang reflected that he'd been running nonstop without checking in on his health and mindset. "This reminded me how my actions affect everyone around me," he continued, pledging clearer, more accountable communication and thorough preparation on set. He added that he plans to focus on his craft with a healthier outlook moving forward.
On Jan. 31, Jang posted a black screen with the words "I'm sorry." With no explanation, fans flooded his social media with concern, and his agency, Nexus ENM, said he had told his parents he would come home the next day but didn't, further heightening alarm.
About four hours later, the company confirmed Jang's whereabouts and said he was safe, though it did not elaborate on the intent behind the post or his personal situation at the time.
Since debuting in KBS2's "School 2017," Jang has appeared in OCN's "Class of Lies," SBS's "My Strange Hero" and "Let Me Be Your Knight," as well as the films "Honest Candidate" and "Count." His next project is the new SBS drama "Human from Today," slated for January 2026.
