Yim Jae-beum is back with a new single that lands like a gut punch.
At 6 p.m. KST on the 6th, the legendary vocalist releases “Life Is a Drama” across major streaming platforms. The track is billed as the last new song he’ll unveil to the public, capping a long-running creative stretch ahead of his retirement.
Framing life as an ever-evolving drama, the song rejects tidy endings in favor of chapters still being written. Even in moments that feel like setbacks or endless loops, Yim pushes forward, drawing strength from a lifetime of falling down and getting back up.
Lyricist Kim Eana pens the words, using spare, resonant lines that let Yim’s weathered, towering voice do the heavy lifting―imbuing the track with a steady, persuasive gravity.
“Don’t you send me goodbye, don’t say it’s over.” “You’ve beaten bigger battles before.” “Life is just drama―you’re the one writing it.” “Find the new road behind the crumbling wall.” The lines retrace a history of choosing to rise rather than disappear, even at the brink.
The message lands with quiet clarity: trust the self that has already endured; even in repetition and frustration, another path opens. Ultimately, you are the author of where your life goes next.
Yim is also connecting with fans on his 40th-anniversary nationwide tour, “I Am Yim Jae-beum,” running through May. Following the Seoul shows at KSPO DOME on the 17th and 18th, he’ll continue across cities including Suwon, Ilsan, and Gwangju, aiming to close out the run with uncompromising, polished performances.
