Singer Jin Denim has died at 29.
His younger sister shared the news on social media on Jan. 3, writing that he “passed away on the evening of December 17 due to an accident.” She explained that the family held a quiet funeral with close relatives but felt it was important to inform fans who loved his music of the facts.
According to his sister, Jin Denim had been receiving treatment since 2015 for bipolar disorder and psychotic symptoms. “He was aware of his condition and worked hard to manage it with ongoing hospital care and medication,” she wrote. “However, his symptoms worsened sharply recently, and it became difficult to manage with family support alone.”
She added that even while struggling, “he sustained his life through faith and tried to share love and belief with those around him.” She stressed, however, that “impulsive behaviors recurred due to the illness―symptoms beyond his control―which caused deep pain for him and our family over a long time.”
Importantly, she clarified the cause of death: “This was not suicide. It was a fall caused by his medical condition.” She also recalled his words in life: “He used to say, ‘When I leave, it’s a joyful day because I’m going to heaven―don’t be sad.’ We hope you’ll remember him not only through grief but through his music and the warmth he left behind.”
Jin Denim has been laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province.
