Brian of Fly to the Sky shared that, early in his career, he was grabbed by a camera director during a live music show.
The singer appeared with bandmate Hwanhee on Jan. 5 on Super Junior DongHae and EunHyuk's YouTube channel, marking the duo’s first joint YouTube appearance in their 27-year history, where they swapped candid debut-era stories and backstage memories.
While watching old broadcast footage, Brian recalled, “There was a live stage where I grabbed the camera and rapped,” explaining that a camera director had told him to hold the camera as part of the performance.
“But that note never reached the main camera director. When I came offstage, a cameraman grabbed me by the collar. Of all days, it was the first time my parents had flown in from the U.S. to see me perform in Korea. I kept thinking, ‘Why am I getting hit?’” he said, adding, “Later, once everything was cleared up, I got an apology ― well, SM did, not me,” capturing the bittersweet moment.
The pair also addressed long-running feud rumors. “There were only two of us, so we fought a lot,” Hwanhee admitted. “Then we’d still have to get onstage and lock in our harmonies, which wasn’t easy.” Brian further shut down a popular rumor that he secretly flew to the U.S. as they were leaving SM Entertainment, saying it wasn’t true. He even volunteered to hype Hwanhee’s current concert run and promised to show up as a guest.
Fly to the Sky debuted in 1999 and has been beloved for a string of hits, including “Missing You” and “Sea of Love.”
