Romance drama "Once We Were Us", starring Koo Kyo-hwan and Moon Ga-young, is building serious momentum in its second week, closing in on the top spot at the Korean box office.

According to the Korean Film Council on the 7th, "Once We Were Us" drew 51,980 moviegoers on the 6th to hold at No. 2, bringing its total admissions to 592,956. The gap with No. 1 title "Avatar: Fire and Ash" was just 87 tickets. Considering "Once We Were Us" is playing on roughly half the screens and showtimes of "Avatar: Fire and Ash", the upset is essentially already in play.

Opening on Dec. 31, "Once We Were Us" sped past 500,000 admissions in six days. Two weeks in, it’s still pulling north of 50,000 daily, nipping at the heels of the 5-million-selling "Avatar: Fire and Ash". Strong word of mouth around its grounded, real-world romance appears to be fueling steady turnout.

"Once We Were Us" follows Eun-ho and Jung-won―once inseparable lovers―who reunite a decade later and unpack the memories that shaped them. The film is a Korean remake of the 2018 Chinese hit Us and Them.
