On the eve of release, the film ‘HUMINT’ has racked up nearly 170,000 pre-sale tickets.

According to the Korean Film Council’s advance-sales chart on the 10th, ‘HUMINT’ leads both categories with a 38.4% booking share and 169,000 tickets sold. It’s well ahead of No. 2 title ‘The King's Warden’ (23% share, 100,000 tickets).

Set in Vladivostok, where secrets and truths sink into the icy sea, ‘HUMINT’ follows a clash between people with very different agendas. The film stars Zo In-sung, Park Jung-min, Shin Sae-kyoung, and Park Hae-jun, and is directed by Ryoo Seung-wan.

Hype around the star director-and-cast combo―and the return of a 20-billion-won-scale action blockbuster―appears to be driving audiences. With major Korean tentpoles scarce for a while, theaters are welcoming the momentum.

After opening a week earlier, ‘The King's Warden’ primed the box office, surpassing 1 million admissions in five days. Now all eyes are on whether ‘HUMINT’ will bring even bigger firepower. The film opens on the 11th.
